BABA ZULA IN PLOVDIV

FB-event-babazula (1).png

Born in Istanbul in 1996, Baba ZuLa features founding members Levent Akman (spoons, percussions, machines, toys), Murat Ertel (electric saz and other stringed instruments, vocals, oscillators, theremin), as well as darbuka and percussion player Ümit Adakale, Periklis Tsoukalas on electric ud and vocal.

Baba ZuLa go to great lengths to provide their fans with a unique live show experience. Their ritual like performances are a mixture of disciplines of art, often featuring belly dancers, elaborate costumes, poetry, theatre and live drawing, delivering viewers a tantalizing audio-visual feast. By mixing oriental instruments such as the darbuka, electric saz, and spoons with electronics and modern sounds, BaBa ZuLa creates a sound all their own called istanbul psychedelia. While a ney can represent the past Sufi-Islamic tradition, and a clarinet is the symbol of the music of the Turkish gypsies-an electric saz together with a wooden spoon can serve as musical compass to Turkish musical roots going as far back as pre-Islamic, shamanic times, through Anatolia reaches all the way up to present-day Istanbul. Despite sounds that might initially come to mind when one hears a phrase like “Oriental Dub”

Pavel-Steidl_edited.jpg

Classical Guitar“)

Vlatko Stefanovski closes Plovdiv GuitArt Festival

For the first time in Bulgaria father and son on one stage!

The virtuoso guitarist, composer and fusion musician continues to surprise his fans. This time, especially for the Plovdiv GuitArt festival, he will take the stage with Jan Stefanovski and Ivan Kukic.
Jan Stefanowski, who plays drums, is his son. In addition to the non-formal music education that Ian acquired at home throughout his life, he studied at the Academy of Music in Stip, in the field of jazz drums.
Ivan Kukic, who also comes from a famous musical family, plays bass guitar in the trio. Kukic is studying music production and sound design in Belgrade.

Since the beginning of 2019, the two young musicians together with Vlatko Stefanovski have played at more than 50 concerts in Europe.
On November 7, from 19:00 in the House of Culture "Boris Hristov"  the Bulgarian audience will have the opportunity to touch the music of the Macedonian trio.
Vlatko Stefanovski is a virtuoso guitarist, composer and fusion musician who has created his own style. What distinguishes it is the inimitable combination of Balkan folklore with blues and rock music. He composes music for films and theatrical performances, and among his indisputable masterpieces is the soundtrack to "Gypsy Magic".
Vlatko Stefanovski was born in 1957 in Prilep / Macedonia in a theatrical family. He started playing guitar at the age of 13. In his late teens he formed the group LEB I SOL which became one of the most important names in the music scene of former Yugoslavia. LEB I SOL had released 14 albums and had toured around the world..
So far, he has released 13 solo albums and another 12 with music for movies. From 1998 he returned to Balkan folklore, but already through the prism of acoustic sound, often in tandem with guitarist Miroslav Tadic. Vlatko Stefanovski uses his newly discovered freedom to pursue countless other musical projects with a frantic thirst to discover the full potential of the guitar.
